Caring for my spouse Member since April 14, 2009I am happy to be part of this organization. I have been caring for my husband since 2003. He was originally diagnosed (erroneously diagnosed!) with Alzheimer's. In 2008 he exhibited signs of being in great pain and the inability to stand. An emergency trip to the hospital concluded that his brain was engulfed with blood. Emergency surgery was performed which confirmed that a subdural bleed had been occuring for 5 or more years. He now has permanent brain damage due to the pressure of the blood. Now dementia has been increasing due to the damage. He has been hospitalized twice this past winter for pneumonia (silent aspiration) and a urinary tract infection. He cannot talk so he cannot verbalize any issues or pain that he is experiencing. None the less he is happy and easy going. I am determined to make his remaining years comfortable and peaceful with lots of love.
