Member since April 25, 2010I've been caring for elders with alzheimer's and other dementias for 20 years. i',m the author of five books on caregiving, including "The Alzheimer's Sourcebook," and "Alzheimer's 911". I do dementia training, to help caregivers (family and professional) learn successful dementia communication. I also encourage families to push for the correct diagnosis. Serious undiagnosed mental illness in elders is not dementia and needs a very different approach in care and treatment. Caring for our elders is one of the greatest spiritual and emotional paths of growth, but it needs flexibility, accurate knowledge and a willingness to own our own issues.
