Mom and dad both 89 years old has passed away. Member since March 12, 2011My husband and I "rescued" my parents from their native NJ two years ago when making the 1,000 mile trip from FL became impossible. I "retired" early to stay home and care for them, as they require 24/7 care. It is not in our nature to put our elderly loved ones in nursing homes unless there is positively no alternative. In September, Dad broke his left hip by falling out of bed. He spent two months in a rehab center and regressed in his psychotherapy care for anxiety disorder. I was able to get his release, and he has been receiving at-home physical and speech therapy. My mother is also 89 years old and has dementia. She went through all the tests including CT scan and MRI to determine she did not have Alzheimer's disease, but there really isn't much difference. It is difficult to watch my parents become more and more childlike and ebb away. They are both now incontinent 24/7. They are still Mom and Dad, thank goodness. An update on 10.29.11:Mom and Dad both entered Hospice care which will enable them to stay here at home with us.
