Caring for my husband Member since February 25, 2011I'm 75, caring for Robert, my 82-year-old husband, who has advanced Alzheimer's Disease. We live in an Assisted Living community, he's on Hospice, and I'm able to get out now and then. We've been married since 2007 but have been close friends since 1980 when I went to work for him as a legal secretary. One of my daughters lives close by and runs errands for us and picks up supplies and brings healthy food. My other daughter lives in Wyoming and visits once or twice a year. His daughters don't live close to us and don't visit any more.. His son, who lives half an hour away, has visited twice in the last five years. So far we are coping fairly well, and Robert has seemed content since he became bedridden in August 2014. He has been wonderful about the changes he's going through and tries to cooperate, but he is able to interact less and less. However, as my WY daughter put it, we are lucky to have each other.
