Caring for my husband Member since January 07, 2010I am now 75 years old and have lived the last 28 years in Germany. My daughter and her German husband, a pastor, living here was the reason I came, marrying a German is the reason I stayed. I am now 77 years old, time flies.. I earned an MA in psychology from USFlorida in 71 and opened my own little private school. I taught awhile at HHC junior college in Tampa before giving my school to my principal and moving to Germany in '81, where I began year working with the US occupation forces in Berlin. My hubby is now 79 and we have been married 26 years. Things are a lot different in Germany...but thank God, there is what the Americans call universal health care. He will be able to receive what he needs as this AD progresses... My biggest worry is what will happen if I die before he does. I have heart trouble, polyneuropathy and chronic kidney disease, whereas he is in extremely good health. If I can last until he is eligible for nursing home care, all is ok, but he is not yet to that stage. I don't know if I will be able to care for him in that stage where he is in pretty bad shape, but not quite eligible for a home.
