My mom has passed away. Member since August 13, 2011i love my mom with all my heart. Here is a poem I wrote for her entitled: "Daughter's Heart" Her back is bent, she's smaller now,her hair has turned so gray. Her temper's softened, as has her eyes, "¦"¦she forgot my name today. I look upon her face with love,I give her my sweetest smile. "Mama, I love you with all my heart" whispered her eldest child. "Please get well, don't leave us here", Sis's heart silently pleads. But mama's goin' when He calls for her, so He can tend her needs.
I am a 55 year old mother of 2 sons, 1 granddaughter & 1 sister who all live out of state. My mom, Mary Dee, started exhibiting symptoms about 10 years ago beginning with insomnia. She started being hateful toward me & complained about me to everyone she talked to, even though we had ALWAYS been close. In 2003 I moved in with her to help her but, in truth, she was afraid to be alone anymore. She trusted me enough to make me her Power of Attorney & take care of her finances but then would accused me of lying about everything I talked about. I kept telling my family she was not herself and I suspected Alzheimer's, her father had it. She was diagnosed with AD in October 2009 but we couldn't afford the medication prescribed by her doctor. By December she was extremely ill & was hospitalized. During the hospitalization she spiraled downhill. She forgot how to feed herself, speak, go to the bathroom & the biggest heartbreak, she forgot my name. She was admitted to a skilled nursing facility in January 2010, where she is still residing. I visit everyday, always at different times of the day. I've made a point of knowing the CNAs that take care of her, the nurses, the dietician (mom has adult failure to thrive). Sometimes she alert & verbal, though she isn't as talkative as she used to be. Sometimes she just wants to sleep so I lie down beside her and we visit & watch tv.
