Medicaid Coverage of Nursing Home Care in 2018

You say that as of July 20, 2018, an unmarried Medicaid nursing home applicant can transfer an exempt car to anyone. Does this have to be done before the application is applied for or after applied for, but before approval of eligibility? My 87 year old mother has been approved for Medicaid nursing home for 1.5 years and is a permanent resident of nursing home totally bedridden. Can she sell her car now and keep the money for personal needs? Or must she transfer the title to the car with no $$$$ received as a gift? Can she transfer title to her daughter and then can the daughter sell it? She is reviewed every July each year for Medicaid approval.

My brother is currently in a Rehab Skilled Nursery Facility that also operates as long Term Care. When my brother entered the Rehab thru a Hospital stay due to a heart problem and inability to walk due to hip problems. He has been in the rehab facility for 6 months. They want to discharge him and want us to look for a facility with Long Term Care. He has both Medicare and Medi-Cal. They will not accept him in Long Term because they are no longer accepting Long Term. But we see them taking patients into Long Term. Can we refuse to move him? I took care of him for 15 years but he needs ortho care.

My husband (72years) has been diagnosed with vascular dementia and has been in a nursing home since 2-2017 after several efforts to bring him home. I applied for Medicaid and he was approved. I was charged $3,300/month for "residential care" from March to July when Medicaid was approved. Medicaid stated that I should pay $1,300/in res care. The day he was approved by Medicaid he was moved to a "nursing" bed and I have to pay $1,834.35/month for a private room. They have moved him to a semi-private room claiming that Medicaid doesn't pay enough. Residential care is meals and pills and very often there is no nurse on duty.. I did hire a lawyer and go to court to become his legal guardian which cost $1235. If this whole process wasn't so completely overwhelming I would find a "good" lawyer so I'm sure I'm doing right by my husband and myself. Kathy Hallett

Ok I received a form stating that Medicaid will pay for my mom to live in a nursing home. During the sign up time(going into the home) I was asked many questions. I gave them a policy my mom owns and a policy I own. They sent a letter inquiring about both policies...Can I just tell them and provide proof that I own one of the policies so that will not cause her to lose her benefits? If that doesn't work what needs to be done. I truly own this policy and have since the day it started.

My life was destroyed when my husband sent me packing, after 13 years we have been together. I was lost and helpless after trying so many ways to my husband back to me. One day at work, I was distracted, not knowing that my boss called me, so he sat and asked me what it was all about, I told him and he smiled and said it was no problem. I never understood what he meant by it was no problem getting back my husband, he said he used a spell to get back his wife when she left him for another man, and now they are together till date and initially I was shocked hearing something from my boss. He gave me an email address of the Dr. Twaha which helped him get his wife back, I never believed that this would work, but I had no choice coming into contact with the sayings that I get done, and he asked for my information and that my husband was able to propose to throw him the spell and I sent him the details, but after two days, my mother called me that my husband was pleading that he wants me back, I never believed, because it was just a dream and I had to rush off to my mother's place and to my greatest surprise, was kneeling my husband beg me for forgiveness that he wants me and the child back home, when I gave Dr. Twaha a conversation regarding sudden change of my husband and he made clear to me that my husband will love me until the end of the world, that he will never leave for another woman. Now me and my husband is back together and started doing funny things he has not done before, he makes me happy and do what it is supposed to do as a man without nagging. Please if you need help of any kind need, please contact Dr. Twaha for help. His email is drtwaha@dr.com his website is https://drtwaha01.wixsite.com/drtwahaspell-catser WhatsApp: +254-735-914561

My sister entered a skilled nursing facility for rehab after falling and breaking both arms. She had stage 4 Glioblastoma brain cancer at the time of her fall. The physical therapy she received could not bring her back to full functionality, and she had to be permanently placed in that same facility. After Medicare and her Supplemental SS insurance had paid what they would pay, Application was made for Medicaid assistance for her. She had no assets. She entered the facility on 2/17/17 and passed away on 6/12/17. The facility had told me, as her POA that she would need to pay $1240.00 out of her SS check each month as her portion of the cost, and Medicaid would pay the difference once she was approved. I paid $1240.00 in May, 2017 and she died on June 12, 2017. The facility now says that I have to pay them the whole $1240.00 for the month of June. I wrote them a check for the 12 days she was there, but they say it's a GA Nursing Home Statute that if she leaves the facility after the 8th of the month, the whole month's portion is due. I cannot find that statute anywhere. Can you tell me if this is true?

Will Medicaid pay for skilled therapy services above and beyond what is part of their regular services like food? My mother is 62 and is in a nursing home in Florida under Medicaid. The people in the business office say that Medicaid doesn't pay for therapy. She does not have Medicare. Is this accurate?

I moved from my home in another state to care for my parents with Alzheimer's Disease, in their home to care for them. I wasn't paid other than room and board. This time period was for nearly nine years. Four years for both parents and an additional five years responsible to my mother whom after a total of nine years of care giving I could not continue as I became mentally incapable of continuing with her care. Mother no longer has any assets. Thee months ago we placed in a memory facility private pay. My brother can no longer pay for her care and we must file for Medicaid. Where may I seek guidance free of charge.

It is time to place my wife of 55 years into a memory care nursing care. How can I do this without her panicking. She still has enough awareness of her existence to know she is being placed in a ' Nursing Home', that is going to be final. I've kept her home for several years now but now her needs are far more than I can provide for her sanitation, safety, and health. We have 3 children near us that love her..shall I seek their help with being there when she goes in? Or say nothing until we get there ? Do you have any other recommendations?

What right does nursing home to take $2.900/$3.100 of our income & leave me to live on $710 before medical is taken out? I was told they would take half. Between him & I we make $3.600/$3.800 a month before medical is taken out. We make to much for your medicaid help. I had to go hungry to pay bills. I can't get help with my medical because of his income that I'm not able to use any of it. It's not right. He didn't want to be in nursing home & I didn't want him there. I want his last days at home. He was missing for 6 months when I hot a bill for h & I found where he was right back in nursing home that was abusing him in the first place.

My father is 80 He was being evicted from his Apartment so I took him home with me. My home is 3 levels The kit is on the bottom the bedroom he will use is on the middle level but ha no walk in shower He uses a cane. He has fallen on the stair s He has to be given his medication and can not cook anything because he may not remember to turn the gas off He can not bath because the shore is on the third level. I only took him temporarily because I knew it was not suitable for him with his handicaps like demenitia, and falling I contacted Medicaid in Oregon where I live. They set up a phone conversation with my father husband and me. Foe an interview. I also told them that we all work and are gone 10hours a day so no one is there to supervise him which he needs 24 -7day which will result in an accident either on his person or burn the house down After the interview the woman from Medicaid told us he does not qualify what am I to do we cannot afford to provide 24 hour supervision and I cannot leave him alone and he does not have enough income or and zero assets? Should I just drop him off at the Medicaid office and leave Children are not responsible Thank you for advice.

Has no home or assets but a load of medical expenses (that are currently paid for by medical, in california. She needs to move to Michigan due to dimensia. How do I deduct medical expenses out of her 1,200 mthly income that are currently already being paid. How does this work. Thank you in advance for any info at all!

Curious about the assest transfer statement. In Ohio. Widowed man is currently in Nursing Home. His home is being sold, and will be used to pay for nursing home costs. Is it ok to for his car to be given as a gift or sold for less than it's worth, and that money not be used for the nursing home? Estimating that the money from the home will last him about 3 more years. Thank you!

She has no assets, but does get a small SS and VA benefits for aid and attendence. I was told by an eldercare attorney that her application for DPW for medicaid for a nursing home may be denied, because for the last five years she has given me over $500 a month towards HER expenses. I explained that I pay taxes on the VA money and her SS money is used for her pills, OTC stuff, depends, clothes, shoes, food and to help with heating bills. where else would mom have been able to live for 10 years with this little bit of money. Now I am extremely stressed and don't know what to do. Please help!

What do I do when I am POA and both of my parents are in the same nursing home? The nursing home wants me to have BOTH of their Social Security checks sent to them and then only give them $30 per month for spending money. They said they will pay their bills, which consist of medical insurance, and some doctor bills and life insurance. But they are only allowed to have $2,000 in checking and $2,000 in savings. Which means that want me to give them any money they have over that amount!!!!!!! It comes out to about $3,000!!! I have NEVER received an itemized bill from these people on either parent!!!! Dad is on Medicare, BC/BS nad Medicaid, but they keep sending me a bill on him. I thought Medicaid patients were NOT suppose to be billed!!!! She applied for medicaid a couple of months ago, but I just found out how this medicaid stuff work when it comes to your income. The problem is when my grandmother was staying with me her income was helping to pay the bills. She gets 1100.00 dollars a month from social security. She doesnt own a home or anything else. I didnt know medicaid check the bank accounts or what not. can i get in trouble for this? comes to income assests. The proble is when my grandmother was staying with me

This was a very helpful article as the regulations for medicaid are so confusing, I had to find an Elder-Care Attorney who specializes in these matters. It was the best choice I could have made. Anyone out there who does not understand the specific laws for their state should not ASSUME ANYTHING THEY MIGHT HAVE HEARD FROM OTHERS. Get legal advice. For instance, I had never heard of the Lady-Byrd Deed...which in the state I live in is the only vehicle left to protect my parents home as all other methods have been discontinued and the laws are changing every year. GET GOOD LEGAL COUNSEL FROM AN ATTONEY WHO SPECIALIZES IN ELDER-CARE.

My mother is in a medicaid assisted living care facility. She is allowed to keep a small allowance out of her social security check and the balance gets written to the state to help cover her care. She has quite a lot of outstanding debt that is now going to collection agencies. My mothers caseworker told a collector that my mother had to pay her outstanding debt with her small allowance that she gets each month which means she does not have that amount for any of her personal things she has. IS that legal?

Say you are a married couple, and your home has been in your wifes name for about 2+ yrs. The husband needs to go into a care center at that point and qualifies for Medicare. Say the husband is now in the care center and after a while the wife wants to sell the home. Does the care center still get the equity if its not in the husband's name at all?
