My name is Robert (Bob) Spinner and I live at Ridgecrest nursing home. I am happy here, but I was informed that I don't work here and cannot assist other Residents. They are always asking for my help and I cannot help them any more. I don't want to stay in my room or change rooms for a noisy hall so my only choice is assisted living. I am on Medicaide/care. I am 63 yrs old come Monday.

Elder orphans

What about elder orphans? All relatives have died or moved far away. All old friends are dispersed and unavailable. How does a person handle moving into assisted living when they are on their own?

I did read all the "whats" and the "whys"; The accuracy of the statements reveal knowledge of what is said. I am 88 years old and was a practicing Psychyatrist from 1958 to 19196. Currently retired but with limited license to practice. Unfortunately become deaf as a diabetic neuropathy.. I thhink I could adapt to a Residential Care in spite of hearing disability.

The assisted living facility my brother is in gave us a tour of their lovely facilities with a restaurant style dining room, nice suites (bedroom, sitting area, kitchenette and large closet and bath. They have as recreation ruin with board games, computers, a pool table, and several lovely outdoor areas. However, dune since Medicaid is paying for his care., he was delegated to another part of the building with a one bed hospital room and shared bath. There are NO amenities, NO recreation except board games, and many residents sit in public areas starting off into space. Dinner is from 4-4:30 & they have no choice. Last time I was there they have these residents s plate of hot dogs and baked beans. No vegetables. If he's late to dinner, as he is forgetful, they do not knock on his door or bring him a plate, and no good was set aside for him, they said nothing was left. Since meals are included they should have set a meal aside for him. He's also been berated for walking outside AND the residents in the poor dude of the building are segregated from the side with the amenities shown during our tour. This was a very deceptive and possibly illegal practice. We had already given up his apartment and put his things in storage. He's only been there the weeks and I can see he's filled with depression and helplessness. This was not my decision, but another family member who was filed by their tour. The facility is merely warehousing the Medicaid and lower paying patients. In trying to find something disabled that Medicaid will cover.

I am a 83 old woman, I am a Widow twice, both husbands had Alzheimer's and both were named Robert so I had to name them Bob P and Bob W. I live alone in a small House with my Cat. I have two great Son's, each one from my first Marriages. I do not require a Walker or a Wheel Chair or Oxygen, I am not bent over and do not have Grey Hair(Thank you Nice and Easy). To my surprise on a visit to my Primary she says,"I think you should go to Assisted Living". I do not know why she said that and it made me angry. Until then she never gave me a clue to how she felt, she knew I drove alone and did all the things that needed doing. I pay my Bills on time and keep track of my expenses, dress myself and shop and cook and clean. Mornings I always put on Makeup and clean clothes. I go to Church and pray God keeps me going. To me Assisted Living to me is a place without Iron Bars and being told what to do and when.My youngest Son stays with me three for four days a week and he was upset about the suggestion of Assisted Living because he see's what I can do. My Oldest Son lives in Connecticut and wants me to move down near him and his wife. He doesn't understand why I won't leave my Home, I told him I love my little House, he says"Oh, you love your House more than me?" I tried to explain how I felt but it is useless so all I say now is"Maybe some day" I want to die in my little House with the TV Remote in my hand and petting my Cat. That is all for now, take care of yourselve's! Fidencia
