If your parent has arthritis and can't easily grasp a toothbrush, put a foam ball on the end of it to make it easier to hold.

I sort of like the idea of a foam or tubular ball but then I think about the toothpaste sliding down the toothbrush and germs build up. I was thinking of the washcloth and then (LoL) lo and behold somebody else suggested a washcloth. I think they are easier (washcloths) b/c when you're done with them, you can throw them in the dirty wash and they come back clean--no germ buildup to worry about.

tubular foam that has a hollow center works better than a foam ball for improving mass grasp in someone with limited range of motion, pain and strength. this idea works well over other thin handled utensils such as silverware. can even use a wash cloth rolled up around the handle to make it more ergonomically correct.
