If someone you're caring for has heart problems and is living on his own, it may be difficult for him to get meals on the table, let alone prepare food that's low in sodium and saturated fats. To make it easier to eat healthfully, help him create and freeze enough heart-healthy meals to last a week or two. You can prepare the meals yourself and bring them over -- or enjoy cooking them together. Ask a doctor or nutritionist for dietary guidelines, or visit the American Heart Association for more information.

This is a great idea if the person you fixed these meals for knows how to heat them up or use the microwave. If you are not the caregiver, you can't be there all the time.

My mother has heart problems, is diabetic and on dialysis. I do not live close to my mom, but I visit often. In my search for good nutrition/variety and convenience, my solution is "Healthy Choice" frozen prepared meals. There are many different combinations of meals that are heart healthy/low in sodium and sugar meals that are great for the microwave. These meals are in the grocery freezer section and run about $2.00-2.50 each. I just stock up when I visit. They are simple to prepare, no mess cleanup and she can enjoy a good nutritional meal without exerting herself. No worries!
