Older drivers can assess and brush up on their driving skills to ease their minds -- and yours. The AARP regularly offers driving classes for seniors. These eight-hour classes, which cost just $10, help older drivers understand how aging affects driving ability and how they can compensate for these changes. Classes are held in community centers, YMCAs, and other easily accessible venues around the country. To find a class near you, call the AARP, at 888-227-7669 (888-AARP-NOW) or go to the AARP website.
Another option: A Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialist (CDRS) can assess driving skills and, in many cases, provide training to improve them. Many driving clinics and geriatric centers have a CDRS on staff. To find one near you, go to the Association for Driver Rehabilitation Specialists website.
