After radiation treatment, a patient's skin may be red and raw, much as it would be after a severe heat or chemical burn. The most soothing treatment for this painful condition is gel sheets; look for the brand names Radiacare and RadiaDres, available from medical and home health suppliers. (Topical aloe vera gel works reasonably well, but most people find the gel sheets, which are sterile and hydrating, more effective.) If you like, you can refrigerate them before use to maximize the cooling effect.

I used the Gel Pack yesterday for Radiation burns. Upon removal the gel pack took some skin with it and there was also a gooey substance left on a baseball sized area. I am leaving it to the open air, but need to know what to do when it needs to be dressed as I put on clothes. It is raw and painful.
