If your parents ever need to evacuate their home in an emergency, they may not have time to sort through their important papers, find what they need to take with them, and get everything out of the house. So consider putting together an emergency briefcase that contains their important papers: Social Security information, homeowner's insurance, life insurance, lease or title to their home, and any bank or investment account information. Store the briefcase in a hall closet or other easy-to-access location to grab easily on the way out.
