Protect your parents -- no matter where you or they live -- by monitoring their checking account online. Most major banks offer online banking, and you can ask your parents to give you access. (Check the bank's website for details.) Once a month or so, take a look at the withdrawals from their account. If you notice big checks written to friends or acquaintances, ask questions.
