Healthcare advocates say that the biggest roadblock in hospice care is often a misunderstanding about what hospice means. Many people assume that entering hospice care means giving up on life -- sometimes even medical professionals approach it that way. According to the Hospice Patients Alliance, however, research shows that those people who enter hospice care earlier in their illnesses actually benefit more from it and live longer than those who delay it.
