Ginger -- as pills, candy, tea, or dried fruit -- is often recommended to combat nausea in cancer patients, and it does seem to work well for many people. But if your parent has low blood platelets following chemotherapy, then he may need to be cautious about ginger. Because ginger inhibits blood clotting, combining ginger with chemo when platelets are low raises the risk of internal bleeding. The danger level rises with doses above 2 grams a day -- up to 1 gram a day should be fine.
