Don't try and do it all in one day or even one weekend. Have a plan! Start with areas of your home that you don't use that much, such as the attic, the basement, the laundry room or spare bedroom. Items that you designate for donating or giving to family and friends in a room or area of the house that you don't go very often because you will be tempted to pull items back out before they are given out. Have those items delivered or have your friends and family come and get them as soon as possible. In rooms that are cluttered - just start in one corner and then stop for an hour or so. Reward yourself for getting something done - go for a walk or get an ice cream. You will be more anxious about getting back to do more the next time. As you are sorting, take the time to remember the good times. This is the fun time and it will help you to let go of some items. Don't be afraid to ask for help either. There are plenty of good companies out there that can help with the sorting and disposal of items. Nick Shepherd, President A Senior Moment, Inc.
