Touch Your Parent With Alzheimer's Before You Talk to Him

If your parent has Alzheimer's disease, get his attention before you start speaking to him -- and avoid startling him -- by gently touching him on the arm or hand as you say his name. Touch is a powerful communicator. Your parent will be better able to focus on what you're saying when he doesn't have to cope with the panic or irritation of being startled.

sometimes this is good and sometimes not. you have to determine that. mom will sometime respond differently than I expect her to. feel for her.
