Mouth sores often develop as a result of chemo and radiation, irritating delicate tissues and leading to great discomfort that can interfere with eating. Soothe the pain by using a common antacid as a salve. Pour Maalox, Milk of Magnesia, or Mylanta into a small cup and wait until the chalky residue separates and settles to the bottom. Pour off the liquid, leaving only the thicker residue. Use a cotton swab to dab the solution onto mouth sores. Rinse with warm water after 15 or 20 minutes.
