If your parent has heart failure, just walking across a parking lot may exhaust him. Yes, he does need to stay as active as possible, but he also needs to get enough rest. When resting, your parent should sit or lie down with his feet elevated. Encourage him to schedule a daily rest period that coincides with a favorite daytime television program, or prerecord a program or movie for him to watch.
