What To Do When You First Learn a Loved One Has Alzheimer's:
Tell family and friends about the diagnosis.
How to tell others about an Alzheimer's diagnosis
There are two main reasons to tell others about an Alzheimer's diagnosis:
- Relatives, friends, neighbors, and colleagues have probably noticed changes in the affected person. They'll appreciate knowing what to expect and having the opportunity to offer assistance.
- You'll need their help. Alzheimer's caregiving is a marathon, not a sprint. To provide effective care for as long as possible, and to maintain your own health and life, you absolutely cannot go it alone.
