Notify the attending physician or, if the death occurs at home, the local police or coroner.

Who to notify when someone dies

State laws require that a medical or law enforcement official verify that a death has occurred. If the death occurs in a hospital or other medical facility, staff there will usually take on the task of notifying the appropriate doctor, but it's wise to double-check this. If the death occurs at home or in some unexpected locale, report it to the local police or the county coroner's office (which generally must investigate suicides and unattended and violent deaths).
