If your items are in working order you may want to try listing these things on eBay or Craiglist. Another option, if you don't want to deal with the actually selling is to take them to a consignment store. Though you may want to call first to see if they access these items. You could also call stores that list and sell your things on eBay for you.

I've seen handicap accessible vehicles for sale at car dealerships. You may be able to sell your vehicle to one.

I'll be interested in hearing how others have sold or disposed of these things already.

Just FYI for those reading, using our community to buy and sell items is against our Code of Conduct, so you're unable to post on this thread, offering to purchase Pooh's items. Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation.

Thanks for the advice on disposing of used medical equipment. I was certainly not attempting to sell any items here but simply wanted "advice" or suggestions on what to do with the items. Thanks.

I live in a 55+ retirement community and we have a lending closet, which I have donated to and used. There might be a senior center in your area that does that. I also go to charity thrift stores to buy things that my mom's medicare won't cover (shower chair) so that's also a good place to "donate" the items. Our city newspaper has a column where people post needs and you reply to the paper who connects the two of you. And I have asked a local church if they had any family in need when I was getting rid of household items-they took an old working stove. As to the van, I know there are charities that will take it so you can take it as a write off on your taxes and they give it to needy family. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to try local senior centers that might have a need.

My hometown (where my 90 year old mother lives) has a durable medical equipment "recycling" company. I know that they SELL (at reduced cost) used equipment, so I've got to believe that they BUY it, as well. Maybe you could contact whomever sells such equipment, locally, or a local "disabled advocacy" group, and see if they know of any similar resources in your area? I'm sure someone would appreciate not having to buy such equipment at retail!

Donating to a senior center is a great way of helping seniors and poor people who would never be able to aford the items they need because of the cost. You can take the donation as a tax deduction so everyone wins. I donated all my wife's medical equipment, clothing and special food to our local senior center after she died of Alzheimer's and feel good about it. Because of the shape our country is in many more people can't afford the things we take for granted. RRC

Just read your thoughts on used medical equipment. Should you have no luck selling your items, you may think about donating them to your local Legion Post. They should give you a letter of their value so you may deduct it from your taxes. Also the Legion Posts let out equipment for the public to use as a good will gesture. Best of luck to you. Tom

Another suggestion for the medical equipment. If you have a VA hospital near you check with them. They might be able to use some of these items.

freecycle.org is a great way to to get rid of if you just want someone to come pick up and not get any money for the items. We got a wheel chair for my husband that way

IF YOU JUST WANT TO DONATE THESE ITEMS, CHECK WITH YOUR LOCAL HOSPICE HOUSES AS THEY ARE ALWAYS IN NEED OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT.

Every "Sun City" (over age 55 communities) that I know of has a volunteer group that supplies medical devices to their residents free of charge as a "loaner" program. I certain they would be more than happy to take your donation and the items would be put to good (and constant) use. Fred

I agree, unless you are in need of the proceeds then there are usually community agencies who take the equipment refurbish if necessary and loan it out to those in need. I have borrowed and returned 2 wheelchairs, a walker and crutches...very helpful and appreciated in that time of need! Our Sheriff's Posse takes care of this for our community but I am sure the American Legion would be most appreciative.

I don't know where you are located, but where I live (near Concord NH), there is a business that accepts donations of used medical equipment, they refurbish them and sell them at a fraction of their original cost. This is very helpful for those that are on a fixed or limited income.

Check with your Local Council on Aging, Senior Center, Senior Services Program. A lot of these organizations have programs that use donated items and lend these items to people who use these items and then return them. We have accepted wheelchairs, walkers, potty chairs, shower chairs, even extra chux pads or depends that we let current clients have to save on expenses.
