My MIL is in a CCRC and they do a lot to celebrate...days before the holiday. There are always decorations and as much resident help as is offered is embraced. However, I'm always a little down when the big Christmas celebration, for example, is the week before, because a majority of the staff is off on the actual holiday. Don't get me wrong. These folks need the time off and deserve to spend it with their families. It just gets me down to think about the residents who don't have family nearby or aren't well enough to leave the facility for day of a holiday. :-(

Still, without doubt, in my MIL's facility, they do many things to celebrate almost all holidays. It always looks nice and she tells me about the parties, gatherings, special menus, etc.
