narcotic addition
My husband had back surgery about 2 years ago and continues to suffer pain from the operation. However, I know he is abusing the vicodin that his doctor prescibes. He is always out of his medication before it is due to be refilled and I strongly suspect he is snorting the pills, although I have never caught him doing it. I also take narcotics for a back injury and he will steal my pills if I don't literally keep them on my person or under lock and key.Its devestating to me. I try not to believe I'm an enabler. I refuse to give him my pills and have tried everything I can think of to make him take his properly.I've considered telling his doctor he is addicted to the pills. I guess my problem is I know he IS in pain. His surgeon has said he requires another surgery, as the 1st one did not definatively correct the problem. I need some advice.

I guess I would just urge you to check your motives. Why do you feel the need to say anything when you said you haven't seen him snort them or really abuse them except maybe take more than he should? Maybe they aren't strong enogh, and he should go be honest w/his Dr? Have you even talked w/him about how you feel? Trying to steal your pills now that is a different story, those are actions that I myself as an addict and countless others that I know have displayed. I have been clean off of pills a little over 6 years so I think I know a thing or two about pill seeking. They have pain management clinics that will help and monitor a persons intake. Are you also ready if you go to his Dr to have him pretty upset with you to say the least? Good luck
