My father in law was a huge Bingo player. He started going 4 times a week when he was living at home. Now that he is in a nursing home (and soon to be moved to an assisted living facility) where they play bingo a couple times a week but not for money we can't get him to play. He says if he can't win any money why bother and so he just lays around.
They give out prizes like candy, cheese and crackers, or small gifts but there is no chance of winning $450! For the last several months that he played for money he didn't win anything (won the jackpot of $450 several years ago but he thinks that he just won it last week) and spent so much money that he doesn't have any savings. We are trying to take him out for bingo twice a month but we can't afford it much longer.
He can't comprehend that he doesn't have the money and thinks we took it all. (that is another issue) but just wondering how to get him to play the game for fun and relaxation instead of $ Any suggestions appreciated!

May sound silly but how about using play money? The kind that looks a bit more real than Monopoly bills. Tell him there is a money value to the actual prizes that you must "redeem" for him. Then when he shows you his bingo prizes, you pay off with the play dollars. Might be worth a try.
