TIA? on top of Lung cancer?
My husband will be getting his 5th chemo today and starting the 5th week of rads. But last Tuesday he had what the doctors think was a TIA (transient ischemic attack). I came home from walking the dog and found him unconscious on the couch. I was unable to get him to full conscious only mumbling and half opening his eyes. He was rushed to the ER where they did all types of tests on him. His heart rate, blood pressure, and blood sugar (he is diabetic) were all in normal range. After several hours he woke up and was able to keep normal conversations with whoever was talking to him. Within 8 hours he was fully recovered but until today he has no memory of the 8 hours between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday March 22. Doctors are still puzzled but will continue his treatment. Anyone have anything like this happen to someone? Would really like to know what it was or what caused it. The ER doctor has prescribed plavex to keep his blood thin so he doesn't have a stroke which usually comes within 3 months after a TIA plus I'm keeping a closer watch on what he eats and his blood sugar levels.
Did they do any kind of a brain scan, CT scan or MRI? That usually can tell them if he did have a TIA. I hope they recommended that you follow up with a specialist, I'm not sure if a cardiologist or neurologist would be best. If they didn't do any type of scan, I would recommend you ask for one when you see his doctor, even if its just his primary care physician.
If it wasn't a TIA, I'm not sure what it could be. But I would think it would still be a good thing to see a specialist so they can also monitor how he is doing.
Hope he, and you! are doing well tonight.
