Gifts for Health Support Staff
My Dad has been receiving the services of a really great home health aid for the last two months. Whether allowed by her agency or not, I would like to show her our appreciation this holiday season. Does anyone have any suggestions (and of course, I've got no time for home made anything).

It really depends first on the agency's policy on the matter. Some companies don't allow certain types of gifts, particularly cash or anything over a certain amount.
Gift certificates are always nice, something like movie tickets or something she could enjoy on her off time.
If nothing else, a card thanking her for all she has done is great. Often home health aides and those in that line of work do not get the credit or praise for the hard work they do. Having someone say "thank you" can really mean a lot.

I called the agency that provides our home health aids to ask about giving gifts. I was told that it was allowed, but I was asked to come into their office to sign a paper that stated the gifts were being given. I bought Bank of America gift cards for the women. I thought they could do with them what they wanted.

I am so pleased to hear you asking what you could do for a thoughtful Christmas gift for your father's aide. It will be much appreciated!

Thanks for your suggestions. I got a laugh out of the agency that wanted the gift giver to go into the office to sign a waiver like we have time.... I understand why the signed form is important; for the protection of the client and workers equally. In the end I gave the aide a cash gift which I know was appreciated. I figured I wasn't actually the client ( my Dad is), so who I give a gift to is my own business. While I don't like to give cash as a rule (I prefer to drive myself crazy trying to find the perfect gift), even giving gift certificates is a time consuming luxury I can't afford right now. Honestly, I am a fortunate woman in as much as I have a husband and adult daughter who can keep my Dad comfortable if I want or need to go out after they get home from work, but I'm just too tired most nights to do anything.
I wish you all a peaceful holiday season.
