my mom is 65 years old and has just had a stroke and is still in the hospital. and may have to go to open heart surgery she has to have a heart valve replacement and if she comes through the surgery she will need 24 hour care she is low income and living on disibility. i am the closest child to her and the youngest (closest that cares that is). i am unemployed and had to turn down a recent job offer because of moms state and want to know if there are any programs who can pay me to be the caregiver for her here in illinois if anyone knows any just let me know please [edited to remove email address] prayers and blessings to all

Most of the programs I know of are through the Medicaid program. Talk to the social worker/case worker at the hospital and ask about getting your mom on Medicaid. Here is Arizona, there are 2 types of Medicaid. The long term care part is what covers the home services, as well as assisted living placement. Each state has its own rules, but the social worker at the hospital should be able to give a brief explanation of the program and help you apply for your mom.
