Need cremation cost assistance.
My father passed away and I cannot afford a funeral. His lifetime partner(a woman), has lived with him for fourteen years. Both were receiving S.S.I. and/or Disability benefits. They are financially in debt and she is afraid that she, even though given P.O.A., is not eligible to receive any HELP for the funeral/cremation costs/ or Catholic Services. I know she deserves everything she wants for she was devout faithful and took care of him even though he should have been in an assisted living care facility. HOW can I get help taking care of this situation. He is my Father. She is not my mother. They were not legally Married. I also had recently moved in to stay with them due to circumstances involving health and an increase in rent which exceeded my budget. Can anyone offer me some very much needed guidance?

Some States have a Cremation Society which takes care of all costs, but not a full-blown funeral. The Society picks up the body, cremates & returns the remains. Not sounding ignorant or stupid, you can go to any Vet hosp. & buy an Urn for a lg. dog - possibly with a picture of their favorite animal (if the deceased had a cat or dog) you may find one carved in or just a plain one then put a picture of the deceased on it with glue. A Memorial can be held in the home with or without food. Also, some people donate their body to science & when their finished, they cremate & returns the ashes - it's free. OR scather their ashes in their favorite place or over the graves of their parents.

I certainly don't want to offend anyone but there is one other possibility to consider. When one of my uncles died he had previously made arrangements with a medical school to take possession of his body to use in their anatomy classes. In return, they paid all the cremation and funeral expenses. If you can bear the idea that your loved one is being anatomized by medical students, you might want to look into this at a local medical school.
