Who does ovarian cancer affect?
In another question on this site about who ovarian cancer affects, I gave a breakdown of ages, according to the National Cancer Institute's Fact Sheets. Basically, it looks like it's pretty unusual in women younger than age 45. Obese women get it more often than those who aren't, and women who haven't had any kids are also at higher risk.
I looked at the American Cancer Society website to find out who ovarian cancer affects, and they also list as possible risk factors: Clomid (a fertility drug), androgens, estrogens, family history, breast cancer, talcum powder, and high-fat diet.
Yes, the Clomid link is an interesting one. Sounds like they're not sure if it's the use of the drug or the fertility issue that's the real link. There's a fairly recent study that says there's no link between the fertility drugs and ovarian cancer, but they only tracked women until they were in their 40s (so far), and the average age of diagnosis is 63, so I'm not sure how much we can depend on that conclusion.
