The current Nexium patent was applied for in November 2009 and it will expire in 2014. The company that makes Nexium was currently in disputes with another company who wanted to make another generic version of Nexium. The company's name is Teva and if they would not have come into agreement with AstraZeneca, Teva would have been in strict violation of AstraZeneca's patent for Nexium. The two companies have reached a pact where Teva will not produce a generic form of Nexium until 2014 when AstraZeneca's Nexium patent will be under re-negotiations.
