Intravenous delivery is one of the most common delivery methods for chemotherapy drugs, and many different chemotherapy drugs are given this way. However, if there is a reason you are not a good candidate for IV delivery, such as having very small veins, there are other methods such using an external catheter or port, which is a catheter placed under the skin.
If you don't know the names of the chemotherapy drugs your oncologist has prescribed for you, you can ask the doctor or one of his staff to tell you or a family member. There may be more than one; for many types of cancer today doctors prescribe a chemotherapy regimen that includes several different drugs. You may wish to have him spell them out so you can look them up.
