What is the difference between fractured hip and broken hip?
There is no difference between a broken hip and a hip fracture. The terms mean the same thing. Hip fractures are in two categories. One of the categories of a hip fracture is called the Femoral Neck Fracture. These occur when the ball that is on the ball and socket joint breaks off of the femur. The other type of hip fracture is the Intertrochanteric Hip Fracture, which occurs below the neck of the femur. In most cases, you would need surgery to treat a broken hip. There are some cases where non-surgical treatment can be used. These cases would be something like stress fractures in the hip. There are other cases where a person has a medical condition that doesn't allow surgical procedures.
