Aricept is prescribed mainly for theraputic use in Alzheimer's disease. It is used to increase cortical acetycholine in the brain, and has been found to improve spleep apnea in Alzheimer's patients. Aricept has also been tested in other cognitive disorders, and is often used off label, but it is not approved by the FDA for these indications.
