How can I tell if my mother is truly ill or if it's side effects of her breast cancer medications?

My mother is on her second cycle of Taxol for breast cancer. She is, at the same time taking Femara. She was doing fine the first cycle but now she is sick to her stomach and has diarrhea. My question is, how do I know if she has the flu or if this is the side affects of the treatments.
