What are the options for repairing a broken hip?
There are several different ways to repair a broken hip. Hip Pinning is a procedure where several screws are placed across the bone that has fractured. This is usually only done on patients that have a femoral neck fracture that is still aligned and only slightly displaced. Hip Hemiarthroplasty describes half a hip replacement. In this procedure, the ball joint is removed and a metal one is implanted. This procedure is often done with patients that have displaced fractures. It is performed under anesthesia and the patient can usually walk with their full weight on the implant immediately.
