My right lung had fluid in it and has become leathery. Is this a sign of cancer? I also have pain in my shoulder and side.

This could be a sign of several different ailments, emphysema and cancer being couple of them. The only sure fire way to know is to see your doctor. And I would not wait even a day. Cancers in the early stages are very treatable.
