Does a tumor in the pancreas mean I have pancreatic cancer?
My uncle was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer when they found a tumor in his pancreas. They had to do a biopsy to confirm that it was malignant, and of course while we waited for the results we did a lot of research into what the odds were. What I found is that a pancreatic tumor can be benign, but the majority aren’t. About 85% of patients have very aggressive type of tumor called adenocarcinoma of the pancreas. The other 15% usually have a better prognosis, and the majority have benign tumors—meaning a tumor that isn’t pancreatic cancer.
