If you get thyroid cancer after radioactive ablation therapy, it is considered a cancer recurrence. And, unfortunately, this type of cancer does have a relatively high recurrence rate. I think it's about 10 percent after 10 years. Although radioactive ablation therapy is quite effective. It cannot guarantee a permanent remission. And, so, yes, thyroid cancer after radioactive ablation therapy is a possibility. But with proper follow up care, any cancer recurrence will be caught early. And if this happens, the odds of kicking the cancer back into remission are still with you!!!
