Stage 5 Alzheimer’s is described as moderate, mid-stage Alzheimer's disease. At this stage people will begin to require some help with activities of daily living. There is some disorientation in time and they may be confused about where they are. At interview they may be unable to recall important information about themselves, their family and others during stage 5 Alzheimer’s.

We are underestimating what medication can do to help or hurt memory stages. EVERYONE in a hospital, that has surgery has cognitive impairment. They were under anesthesia to perform a surgery. I have had patients FAIL to remember what their normal blood pressure is. Sometimes, segments of memory are blocked. Also, if you have not slept, and your cortisol is high, it will preclude you from a good "delta" sleep. Your will be "mentally constipated" with a backlog of memories, until your cortisol levels go down and you are able to sleep. Read the book, "Sleep the Pounds Away." It is 1999-2004 neurology University of Chicago sleep studies. Dont forget that taking some antibiotics, such as levoquin wil create short term memory impairment. The science of geriontology , or elder care in medicine is now recognizing half dosages in meds for over 70 yr old patients. They cannot get full "40 yr old" adult dosages. And not drinking enough water while on medications creates a "brain fog." We underestimate proper nutrition. I truley believe that is how we will crawl under "obamacare" in the 2014 cycle.
