The prescription drug Plavix is used to prevent clots in the blood. If it is taken during certain dental procedures, such as tooth extraction or oral surgery, it can cause excessive bleeding. Some dentists recommend you stop taking Plavix several days before your scheduled dental procedure. Make sure you let your dentist know you are taking Plavix and also consult your doctor to make sure it is safe to temporarily stop taking the medication.
