Can Seroquel be used to treat Alzheimer's patients?
Seroquel can be used to treat Alzheimer’s, in some cases. It’s not commonly used, but there are many doctors who prescribe drugs “off label,” meaning they feel it may help a person with a certain disease, even though that isn’t the primary reason for the drug.
Seroquel is mostly used to treat bipolar disorder, but since the aim of the drug, from what I’ve read, is to help people with disorders think more clearly, it makes sense that some doctors may try it with dementia patients.
However, from what I have heard, Seroquel can be used to treat dementia in some cases.
The website for Seroquel clearly states that it should NOT be used for elderly patients with dementia! I don't understand why so many people use it anyway? My dad was just given it and he became so delusional you couldn't even talk to him. I made them take him off and the next day he can talk to me again even though he is still confused about where he is. I was very upset.
