Are diary products linked to ovarian cancer?
I ran across some studies linking dairy products and ovarian cancer.
In one study (2001), the dairy sugar galactose was highlighted as possibly being toxic to ovarian cells. In a Swedish study (2004), consumption of lactose and dairy products was linked to a higher risk of ovarian cancer. And in a Iowa Women's Health Study (1999), women who drank more than one glass of milk a day had a 73 percent greater chance of ovarian cancer than women who drank less than that.
In another study at Harvard School of Public Health (2006), researchers found overall no links between intakes of dairy foods or calcium and ovarian cancer risk. But they did say that "a modest elevation in the risk of ovarian cancer was seen for lactose intake at the level that was equivalent to three or more servings of milk per day." In other words, for milk lovers, there might be a link between dairy products and ovarian cancer.
There's a lot of research out there about ovarian cancer and diary products, isn't there? I was also reading about links between dairy products and testicular cancer. So much to learn!
