Is it better to make my mother with dementia go out and be social, or should I let stay home?

My mother has mild dementia. She was never really a social butterfly, but would regularly attend church, dinner with friends, etc.
Lately she does not want to anything. Is it better to maker her do things, or follow her wishes and stay home.
