my mother and father are in their mid 80's my father is a control freak. right now they travel back and forth from one place in the state to their old home. My mother has dementia we think it is moderate. only now after many years have I lined up an appointment for her with Northwestern Geriatrics in Chicago.
We live far away in New York. I would like most of all to have them near me. So here is my question.
in the Boston area or where they want to move: Quincy Illinois I am looking for places that are friendly to a couple where one person has dementia and one is not showing symptoms but has some health issues.
What is your advice? they have never been seperated and I don't want them to be. Could my mother even qualify for assisted living when they have memory unit? how does it all work? my father is a Veteran. He also does NOT like spending money. Though they have it, where they currently stay they get one prepared meal and then he proudly says they have a sandwich for dinner and breakfast. It breaks my heart. I have no control really but if any of you can advise me as to what would be a good living arrangment I'll do my best. I am not kidding when I say the worry of it all is killing me. And I have small children to care for.
