My elderly step mother has moderate Alzheimer's. She is an only child with no children. I am the only "relative" to help her. The problem is that I live out of state. I recently moved her out of her home and into an independent living situation (meals are provided and I pay someone to help with meds, etc). To close up the house for the bank to take (reverse mortgage-urghh) and get her transitioned into her new situation, I have had to take off work. Eight weeks and 2 round trip plane tickets so far. I am her POA. I will be taking care of her for the rest of her life and will move her closer to me as her condition worsens. For now she is aware enough to want to be close to her friends. I plan to fly in to where she lives every 8 weeks make sure everything is OK (for temporary I rely on her friends to help). I have paid for all expenses myself. Are any of my expenses reimbursable?
