I was "awarded" legal and financial conservatorship of my mother in 2004 because the visiting nurses made a report to Adult Protective Services that my father was not providing adequate care for her. She has many serious health issues and needs constant care. However, I am physically disabled and I don't have much money. My mom is dependent on my father, and he refuses to pay for her care. Not only that, he is an alcoholic and has rather severe short-term memory loss. And my mother refuses to leave my father to go to a skilled nursing facility. I live in California. What are my legal options if they refuse to cooperate with my suggestions for Mom's care?

Call an elder care attorney right away. You are responsible for her. Period, they will at least steer you in the right direction, if not enable you to truly help. When in doubt get an expert. They are in the yellow pages and waiting for your call.
