What is the prognosis for liver cancer?
As with other cancers, liver cancer prognosis depends on the stage of the disease (how much it has spread). Also important are how well your liver is working and your general health.
Overall, the prognosis for liver cancer isn't good. But if you catch it early your chances of survival are much greater. In fact, the American Cancer Society says that if you have a small tumor that can be removed and you don't have cirrhosis or other serious problems your liver cancer prognosis -- the overall five-year survival chances -- are over 50 percent.
Unfortunately, when it comes to overall liver cancer prognosis, the five-year survival rate is about 10 percent. That's partly because if you have liver cancer you probably also have other liver problems, like cirrhosis.
Remember tho..this is just a statistic..don;t take all of what you read to heart..Because everyone is an individual and each body responds differently..I know of a man that had liver cancer and he was told 5 yrs..and he is now 85 yrs. old and that was before all this GREAT treatment and miracles! Remember Statistics are just that!!
My husband went thru appendix, colon and liver cancer with 5 tumors to the right side and had a liver resection of 55% of the liver .. He is doing amazingly well and we LOOK at each day, NOT how much time do we have left.
