Should my mom and I keep our joint cd account or open two separate ones?

My mother sold her house (which was in her name and my name)almost 3 years ago. The money from the sale of the house was put in a joint cd. She wants me, her only daughter, to have half of the money. Should the cd be left as is or should two separate cd's been opened? She is starting to show the early signs of dementia.
